Starting out

Proposal was 3 weeks ago, on the beach, in the Bahamas - a good way to start.

Now, for a person who generally likes planning stuff, a tolerance level for bullshit has already been met.  Why is it that every wedding website is overrun with paid sponsorships for generic kitchy crappiness, and all of the info about what is actually good is mysteriously missing?

In the ocean of wedding resources, I've decided to keep a blog of the reality. Without frills, and without sponsorship, so that the winners and losers of this wedding planning process can be highlighted.

So far, I have a quote for a restaurant that charges ~$100 for a two person dinner with wine at "minimum $30,000 in food (+ facilities & everything else, remember this is a restaurant) for a wedding" and a set of quotes for engagement parties at restaurants in SF that would make anyone's eyes water in comparison to the cost of normally dining at the establishments. While it is an age-old awareness that mentioning "wedding" means you'll be screwed ASAP, I still don't understand why, except that it's like a tourist thing - they only expect you'll be around once, so they might as well milk you as much as they can.

There has to be another way, and I intend to find it, and share it!
